With DEI efforts under attack and support for students of color shrinking, we’re stepping up. Help us provide scholarships to first-gen college students so they can stay in school and lead change in our community.
Help First-Gen Students Stay in College and Lead the Future of Nevada
Today, we’re calling on our community to rally behind something urgent and deeply personal: scholarships for our current college students.
Leaders in Training (LIT) has proudly walked alongside 13 cohorts of first-generation students, 75% of whom identify as Latinx/e, from East Las Vegas and beyond—students who have already defied the odds to become the first in their families to attend college.
But right now, their futures are under threat.
Across the country, the dismantling of DEI efforts, the weakening of the Department of Education, and cuts to student support services on college campuses are hitting students of color the hardest. From financial aid disruptions to the closure of cultural centers and equity programs, our students are being told they don’t belong.
We’re here to say otherwise.
Through this campaign, we’re raising funds to provide direct scholarships to LIT college students who are navigating not only tuition costs, but also rising housing, transportation, and food insecurity—without the safety nets many campuses once offered.
$25 helps a student cover meals for a week.
$50 covers transportation to and from campus or work.
$100 goes toward books and supplies for a semester.
$250 helps with housing deposits or emergency costs
$500+ contributes to tuition, fees, or retention scholarships.
Every dollar donated will go directly to students currently enrolled in college through the LIT Alumni Network—students who are working jobs, taking full course loads, and still mentoring high school youth behind them.
It’s a statement that Nevada believes in its youth. That our community will step up when institutions step back. And that first-generation, Latinx/e, and historically excluded students deserve to thrive—not just survive.
With your support, we will keep them in school, and keep their dreams alive.
