Taking care of life through safe and timely transfers
Imagine for a moment that you are a woman, a midwife, living in Michoacán. It's 2:00 in the morning and your phone rings, it's a woman in labor who needs you. It's raining outside, you must go to her house, which is an hour and a half away from yours, carrying your equipment. In the town where you are, there is no transportation at that hour, and you don't have a car.
Now imagine that you are in another delivery and for some reason, you need to transfer the baby to the hospital, you call for an ambulance and the operator tells you that there are no units available near you, neither you nor the family have a car.
HOW WOULD EVERYTHING CHANGE IF YOU COULD HAVE ACCESS TO SAFE TRANSPORTATION?
IMAGINE IT AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME WITH ACCESS TO A VEHICLE.
Mujeres Aliadas provides midwifery-based sexual and reproductive health care to women in more than 50 communities in the region. Sometimes we have to travel to where they are and sometimes, they come to where we are, although most of them do not have private transportation.
For deliveries, we must be able to mobilize when they need us, and we never know when that will be. We travel at all hours, at night and in the early morning, to different places. In some communities where we work, the nearest hospital is 40 minutes away and, although the vast majority of the time everything is resolved at home, sometimes we are faced with emergency situations that we need to be able to deal with.
According to UNFPA and WHO data, if there were enough midwives to care for all women, 90% of the world's need for essential sexual and reproductive health interventions would be met, about 65% of maternal and neonatal deaths would be prevented, and women would have more fulfilling experiences.
At Mujeres Aliadas we are ready to be part of this change; we have a team of midwives trained, committed, and passionate about accompanying and caring for women. But that's not enough, we need to be able to reach them: and you can help us do it!
With your donation, we will be able to purchase a vehicle that will allow us to guarantee safe and loving births for all the families we accompany.
