Asociación Todos Juntos works with women to improve food security and nutrition in Guatemala.

We began working in Guatemala in 2016 when we created MealFlour, a program that teaches women how to build and maintain environmentally sustainable mealworm farms, as well as how to turn mealworms into a protein rich powder that can be incorporated into a variety of foods and sold as an additional source of income. Since 2016, we have reached over 300 people and helped set up over 60 mealworm farms.

In 2020, in order to expand our work and better serve communities, the MealFlour team formed the non-profit Asociación Todos Juntos.

‘Todos Juntos’ means ‘All Together’ and that is truly how we approach our work. Our mission is to improve community resilience through grassroots programs that improve food security and nutrition. We currently run two programs, MealFlour (our flagship program) and Bienes Forestales, which preserves and shares knowledge about the nutritional and medicinal benefits of local species.

Our fantastic Director of Programs, the women who participate in MealFlour trainings, our interns, and  our dedicated supporters all have a critical role to play at Todos Juntos. As we work to expand our reach, we are asking you to join us. By donating, you will become a critical part of Asociación Todos Juntos and our work to improve food security and nutrition in Guatemala.

Some of the exciting projects that the fundraiser will support include:

  • Supporting the women from the first ambassador cohort in Huehuetenango as they start a small sustainable community business.

  • Completing and publishing the Bienes Forestales catalog of indigenous edible plants, fungi and insects in Spanish and Mam.

  • In collaboration with MealFlour participants and nutritionists, developing a cookbook of recipes that incorporates edible insects, indigenous plants, and traditional foods.

  • Collaborating with Guatemalan restaurants interested in edible insects to create additional social enterprise pathways for participants.

  • Working with our partners at the University of Wisconsin to publish the ongoing results of the program so that others around the world can learn from our work.

  • Supporting new MealFlour trainers as they teach others in their community.

  • Expanding our full-time team, which now includes amazing former MealFlour interns from Universidad de San Carlos in Guatemala.

  • Conducting research on the adaptability and management of mealworms for the domestic production of insect protein.

  • Creating a manual on small-scale production and handling of mealworms in multiple languages.

As a grassroots organization we rely on donations from individuals who share our vision for a healthier future for Guatemalan families. Please help us amplify and share our work by posting about us on social media and by telling your family and friends about our projects.

You can find more information about our work on our website (which includes our annual reports), and be sure to sign up for our newsletter so you can stay up to date on all of our work!
