The key to success in any crowdfunding campaign is mobilizing your crowd. And the good news is you don’t necessarily have to start weeks in advance: on days like #GivingTuesday, the right emotional appeal can spread quickly, as your audience is already primed.
Follow these quick tips to make sure as many people as possible visit your project on HIPGive—and donate—this #GivingTuesday.
1. Use ALL of your communications channels
Email, Facebook and Twitter will likely be the linchpins of your campaign, but don’t forget to pick up the telephone, and use apps like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. For key donors and influencers, the more personal our message, the better. Check out how ASAC used WhatsApp to great success here.
2. Share a matching funds graphic
Including the incentive of matching funds in your communications is a surefire way to attract more donors and is especially effective for newcomers to online giving. Create your own image to share or use this one:
3. Make a video appeal
Facebook and other social media platforms give priority coverage to videos, and especially live feeds. You don’t need an Oscar-winning production; a meaningful face-to-face appeal from a beneficiary, staff member, or Director explaining just how your project will change lives will be effective in encouraging more donations. Daniel Aguinaga’s video in the “Running for Premature Babies” campaign is a great example.
4. Include a strong call-to-action
The number one reason people don’t give is because we fail to ask. Always end your communications with a direct request for a donation to your campaign, in the form of a button or a short text such as “Give now” or “Donate here.” This should link directly to your project page on HIPGive where they can follow through to complete their donation.
