EBSC provides critical services to low-income immigrants and asylum seekers and reaches around 10,000 people every year. We offer free legal and wraparound support so people can attain legal status and integrate into U.S. society.
During COVID-19, we are offering a tri-lingual hotline and phone appointments to help people with legal cases, unemployment, rent relief, food, and mental health support. We adapted COVID-19 Resources in English and Spanish on our website so they are accessible to our immigrant community members and are sharing this information through confidential texts. Many of our constituents come from Latin America; many do not speak English; some have limited Spanish; and some are illiterate. Almost all are low-wage workers who are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.
Some are able and willing to work, yet do not have money to pay for their work permit renewal ($410). If they don’t have a work permit, they are not able to apply for unemployment benefits or receive other relief.
Together, we will help low-wage, immigrant workers obtain a legal work permit so they can support their families during COVID-19 and beyond.
