What is Reproductive Justice (RJ)?
Reproductive Justice is a framework that encompasses the rights of all people to
- HAVE children when they are ready, and have access to the necessary support for healthy pregnancy, birth and parenting experiences
- NOT HAVE children and have access to the sexual and reproductive health services including contraception, comprehensive sexuality education and abortion
- Parent the children we have in healthy environments that are free of violence, both interpersonal and institutional.
- And bodily autonomy.
Who Are We?
California Latinas for Reproductive Justice (CLRJ) is a statewide organization committed to honoring the experiences of Latinas/x to uphold our dignity, our bodies, sexuality, and families. We build Latinas’/x power and cultivate leadership through community education, policy advocacy, and community-informed research.
What Are We Doing?
Over the next 4 weeks, CLRJ is raising $5,000 to support 5 Latina/x leaders to organize Union de Vecinas, a group of Southeast Los Angeles neighbors fighting for safe, stable and affordable housing for families in their community. After several months of door-knocking, one on one meetings, and reuniones de vecinas, CLRJ found that a critical challenge for families in Southeast Los Angeles is access to housing. At CLRJ, we understand the connection between our reproductive rights and the housing crisis in our communities. Every eviction can mean a homeless parent, a homeless child, a homeless pregnant person, or an elder. Every health hazard in our home is a hazard to our children, our families, and to our reproductive health. This year, CLRJ is working towards supporting the Latina/x leaders in this community to talk to their neighbors about the potential of their collective power. This effort will support tenants in this community by providing renter’s rights workshops, opportunities to meet with their local legislators about this issue, and the possibility of developing a housing campaign using a reproductive justice lens to fight for better protections for the approximately 70% tenants in these neighborhoods. This is a critical part of our long term work. At CLRJ, we understand the importance of exercising our collective power, and we intend to continue informing our communities about how we can hold elected officials accountable to our communities’ needs.
How Can You Help? You too can be part of the Reproductive Justice Movement!
When we build Latina/x leadership we empower our communities to use their voices and harness their power to make change happen! Your donation to our campaign will fund the costs and expenses related to travel, childcare, space rental, and staff salaries. More importantly, your donation is a long term investment in the Latina/x leadership we are seeking to build statewide.
Your donation represents a way for you to contribute to the cultivation of Latina/x leadership across the state that supports and uplifts the 7.5 million Latinas/x and their families who are impacted by the policy advocacy and leadership development work that CLRJ has taken on in the state of California.
We thank you for your consideration to support our work! We look forward to staying connected with you! Please join our mailing list and follow us on social media! www.clrj.org
