Support Puerto Rico

HISPANICS IN PHILANTHROPY

Our story

Puerto Rico has been trembling for over a week and it hasn’t stopped. It is the worst earthquake to hit the island in more than a century. The earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 struck off the coast of the island on January 7th, but this comes after a week of ongoing earthquakes that continue to strike the same area.

The earthquakes and aftershocks have knocked out power to much of the island, seriously damaging homes and buildings and leaving at least one person dead. The governor of Puerto Rico has declared a state of emergency.

At this time, the community is in need of a variety of items such as sleeping bags, tents, diapers (adult and children) to help the most impacted by this disaster.

We are partnering with organizations that had critical roles in helping after Hurricane Maria including Colibri Foundation, Centro para Emprendedores, and the Boys and Girls Club of PR. The capacity we built together during that difficult experience is helping us now to respond to this catastrophe in a collaborative and expansive manner. We have the ability to include the smaller, grassroots organizations that are the heart and soul of the communities they serve.

In order to continue to support these community partners and help them grow their services to a community in need, Hispanics in Philanthropy is developing a fundraising campaign that will equally distribute the funds to the following groups:

  • Para la Naturaleza
  • Foundation for Puerto Rico
  • Apoyo Mutuo Mariana
  • Filantropía Puerto Rico
  • Boys and Girls Club of PR
  • Centro Sol Isolina Ferré
  • Utopia Ponce
  • Centro para Emprendedores

Time is of the essence as we are working to send immediate support and relief to community organizers and responders on the ground. Click on the button below to help our community in Puerto Rico and share the campaign with your network, family and friends.

We’d like to also thank our partners, World Central Kitchen, Banco Popular Foundation, Fundacion Comunitaria de Puerto Rico and the Hispanic Federation who have been working with us in aiding the recovery efforts since Hurricane Maria, and who continue to support and mobilize communities today.
