Our story

PROJECT RELEVANCE

El Salvador is one of the most dangerous country for girls and women, being the country in Central America with the highest rate on sexual violence against girls and women. Only in 2018, six of every ten victims who report sexual crimes were girls and female adolescents, and according to official numbers, everyday almost eleven children are sexually abused.

The salvadorean Ministry of Health has notified in its reports that the main perpetrators in sexual aggression cases were close people such as uncles, stepfathers and grandfathers. In the same way, the reports indicate that children and adolescents who are sexually abused had main diagnosis on “behavioral disorders”, “childhood emotional disorders” or “posttraumatic stress disorder” since the age of three. These diagnoses are related to other disorders like depression, anxiety and stress developed during adolescence.

UNICEF stated that “children’s rights are intimately related with women´s rights”, because health and development opportunities that children have depend directly from the sanitary and socioeconomic situation of their mother. In which case, improving children´s life is improving women´s life, both being key in communities’ development and healthy recreation in our country.

Therefore, this project is relevant because it generates a positive impact on families and society. The experience of FUNDASIL Psychological Clinic points to a certain goal: a prompt, adequate and professional intervention is needed to contribute to the emotional wellbeing of sexually abused children and adolescents and thereby improve their conditions and life quality in a comprehensive way.

WHAT DO WE EXPECT?

FUNDASIL Psychological Clinic look for children, adolescents and adults to have access to a psychodynamic therapy that provides an emotional corrective experience, favoring emotional expression and self-knowledge around the sexual abuse suffered in the past or the present, providing a quality environment which helps transforming difficult attitudes and behaviors.

Similarly, we hope working with families who are the main support network and provides a comprehensive welfare for every person. Finally, in cases of high risk, we generate strategies that encourages prevention within families, schools and grassroots communities where children grow.

WHO ARE WE?

FUNDASIL is an NGO known for its educative and psychotherapy services in San Salvador. Its main goal is to make actions towards the fulfillment of children´s rights in El Salvador, for all of its actions are based on children´s rights framework.

Likewise, the Psychological Clinic provides psychological attention answering to request from families, schools, shelters and different public institutions or other organizations looking for a comprehensive development that improvise mental health and helps overcoming conflictive situations of children, adolescents and their families through therapy sessions, psychological support and creating safe spaces for family connivance.
