The Mexican Association of Rural and Urban Transformation A.C (Amextra) is a non-profit organization that serves marginalized rural and urban communities in Mexico. Over our almost 36 years of uninterrupted service, gender equality has become a core value. Our goal is to help women recognize the skills and resources they already have and can use to transform their lives and their communities.
From January to December 2020 Amextra will collaborate with four communities of the municipality of Palenque in Chiapas, Mexico, providing training and support for the following productive projects:
- Vegetables gardens and organic fertilizer management
- Maya garden (preservation of native seeds)
- Chicken production
- Oyster mushroom production
Initially, the project will provide support for the acquisition of supplies and materials for the construction of backyard spaces, in which families will produce food (chickens, vegetables, and mushrooms); subsequently, work will be carried out through a revolving credit model, in order to encourage good project management practices.
During 2020, a total of 30 indigenous and farming families in Chiapas will improve their quality of life through the implementation of sustainable productive projects, strengthening their food security and protecting the local environment from chemicals that pollute local water sources and decrease long-term land fertility.
In early February 2020 we held our first participatory diagnostic workshop with the women, in which they outlined their dreams and goals for the projects this year. With your support, these dreams will become a reality!
