"With most food pantries closed, B&R has helped to make ends meet for families who are really struggling with recently being out of work due to the pandemic."

The Coronavirus pandemic continues to devastate Lawrence - where 1 in 4 live below the poverty line. Vulnerable communities are facing social isolation and an increased risk of food insecurity. Food pantries are struggling to keep up with the skyrocketing demand. As the pandemic continues to surge and colder weather approaches, the need grows more urgent.
Our response is to meet people where they are with Community Food Outreach. Since the start of the pandemic, over 450,000 of pounds of meals and bulk food - as well as clothing, toiletries, pet food, laundry cards and gift cards to grocery stores and restaurants - are delivered in our two vans five days a week to community agencies serving the homeless, seniors, veterans and low income families - as well as to 20 local churches serving recent immigrants from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Central America - 40% with undetermined legal status - making them ineligible for SNAP or other benefits.
Between the agencies and churches we partner with, we estimate that we are effectively reaching a minimum of 6,000 individuals and households each month.
Your donation could mean a week's worth of prepared meals or grocery store trip for an immigrant family, or the chance for an individual experiencing homelessness to sit for a cup of coffee out of the elements or dry wet clothes.
Now more than ever, we need to remember that our neighbors experiencing poverty need our support. Any donation you can make at this time will help connect people struggling to survive with the assistance they need.
